This is a high quality wool hat and it turned out to be a great investment and valuable asset as I now live in the far north with a 6 month snowy winter. If you are thinking of wearing it around town as a novelty (in a temperate zone), let me forewarn you that this is actually a very insulative piece of cold weather gear i.e. you will sweat at room temperature. This hat is definitely made for outdoor/cold weather wear. Also, I think it is sized for an average adult head, but it is a bit stretchy so it should fit a large headed adult.

I did originally bought this fun "novelty" hat when I lived in California and only used it when I went skiing in the Sierras. But when I moved to Norway, I realized what a great practical asset that I owned. It kept my head comfortable in sub-zero temperatures (minimizing heat loss off the top of your head is a survival priority), plus it had useful built-in ear flaps. When the winds were gusting, the two nice tie straps cinched it down.

The outer appearance of the hat seems to get lots of spontaneous smiles, and it appropriately breaks the ice (so to speak) for me (as a gamer, as someone with a sense of fun, someone confident enough to intentionally look silly). The hat is knit. The beak, the top tufts of feathers, and a small tail feather are also knit and stick out from the hat. The eyes are felt and are intentionally cross-eyed and angry looking. The inside of the hat has a pile-fleece lining which is very comfortable (not in direct contact with wool which is itchy).

Sure the Angry Birds craze is just a fad probably. But long after it fades, I will still have a very useful winter hat.
